Calm Mind Therapy
Welcome and thank you for stopping by Calm Mind Therapy!
I am Tonya El-Hendi, LCSW and founder of Calm Mind Therapy.
I am excited that you are looking into therapy for either yourself or a loved one. Whether this is your first exploration or you have decided to re-visit therapy as a tool for support we might have something for you.
I have spent my entire career in our public schools serving students in one capacity or another. I have been engaged in school-based mental health services since 2009 and got licensed in 2014. Since then, my focus has been on training other therapists and providing amazing full-service therapy to children and adolescents in schools.
Throughout my journey, what has proven to be most effective is not only providing therapy for the individual, but also helping clients truly understand what is happening in their lives and emotional experiences. Focusing on developing insight, increasing self-awareness, and identifying mutually agreed-upon goals creates a collaborative therapeutic process where clients feel empowered, supported, and connected to their own growth. Ultimately, therapy is most meaningful when the client leaves feeling good about their experience, their progress, and themselves — not just about the therapist.
I have seen how well my therapists have helped families so I wanted to start this private group practice to continue training future therapists (my registered associates) in a collaborative transparent therapeutic approach.
I invite you to read more about what I believe makes therapy successful for clients.
Personalized & Professional Clinical Services
Parent coaching can be especially valuable when trying to better understand the emotional needs of your child—particularly if your child is neurodivergent or has a temperament that differs from your own. Coaching provides insight, support, and practical strategies to help you connect more effectively and parent with greater confidence.
Navigating the education system for your child can be challenging—especially when your child is experiencing emotional, behavioral, or learning difficulties. Understanding your options is key to getting the right support. Depending on your child’s age and stage of development, there are different educational supports and placements that may be available through your school district.

Finding a Therapist
Finding a therapist can feel difficult and overwhelming, especially if you're not sure where to begin. A helpful first step is to identify your personal goals—what areas of your life you’d like to improve or explore. Therapists can support you in many ways, including enhancing your overall well-being, improving daily functioning, and addressing symptoms that may be interfering with your ability to thrive. There are many reasons people seek therapy, and starting a therapeutic relationship is a valuable step toward greater self-understanding and emotional health.
